Athi-Patra Ruga is a South African artist born in 1984 in Umtata. He uses performance, photography, video, textiles, and printmaking to create works that challenge and subvert the colonial history and social norms of South Africa. His works feature colorful and fantastical characters and scenarios that draw from his own experiences.
