Edward Roworth (1880-1964) was a prominent South African artist known for his significant contributions to the country’s art scene. Born in England, Roworth settled in Cape Town after serving in the Second Boer War, where he established a teaching studio and became an influential figure in the art community. His works, primarily landscapes and portraits, often captured the beauty of the Cape region and depicted important figures of the time. Roworth also played a crucial role in art education as the chair of the Michaelis School of Fine Art and director of the South African National Gallery. His legacy continues to inspire and shape South African art today.
