Florence Zerffi was a South African artist who was born in London in 1882 and moved to Cape Town in 1916. She studied art in London and Berlin and exhibited with the South African Society of Artists (SASA) and other groups. She was known for her versatility of media, her subtle sense of colour and her originality in portraits. She also served as the Keeper of the Michaelis Collection from 1921 to 1924. She married fellow artist Strat Caldecott in 1924 and exhibited with him until his death in 1929. She later taught painting privately and joined the New Group in 1938.
