Hennie Niemann Snr (b.1941)
After a very normal middle class upbringing, Hennie entered the vocation of teacher. After 19 years he moved to next door to the famous artist Gregoire Boonzaier, in Onrus. With much influence from him and the cape impressionists as well as the impressionists of Europe, Hennie experimented and formulated his own style. Added to this was his connection with artist father Frans Claerhout, whos influence in both style and subject matter is most evident. A painter and drawer, Niemanns choice of genre is predominantly that of the love of farm workers and harvesters who he portrays with dignity and fervor. His works a represented in many collections both in South Africa and abroad.
