Cecil Kenneth Baker (1921-1996)

Born Claremont, Western Cape, Kenneth had a limited education, started life as a sign writer in the harbor until he became a full time artist. He presents everyday life in the Cape, specifically depicting those from his own coloured community. A prolific artist with influence from Pranas Domsaitis, Gregoire Boonzaier and Peter Clarke, Bakers works are found in both local and international collections. His portrayal of areas such as District Six and Bo Kaap are of specific importance, as are the works showing domestic life.
