Kenneth Baker (1921-1996) was a self-taught South African artist renowned for his vivid depictions of everyday life in Cape Town. His work often featured scenes from the Cape Flats, Bo-Kaap, and District Six, capturing the vibrancy and spirit of these communities. Baker’s artistic talent was recognized and nurtured by his father, a house painter, and he later worked as a sign writer at the Cape Town Docks, which inspired many of his paintings of fishermen and harbor scenes.
