Nerine Desmond (1908-1993)
Born in Constantia, Western Cape, bar for a short stint of studies in London, Desmond was predominantly self taught. A painter, she was renowned for her delightful watercolours as well as rarer oils, depicting farm and rural subjects. She also had a parchant for still lives. Desmond was heavily influenced by Gregoire Boonzaier and Frieda Lock, and her ability as a book illustrator gave her the opportunity to paint full time.
