William Timlin (1892-1943)
Born in Ashington, Northumberland, Timlin showed much promise in hisarts from a young age and received scholarship to the Armstrong College of art, Newcastle. He became an architect and illustrator, and in 1912 he joined his parents in Kimberley South Africa. Where he completed his training. He designed numerous important buildings and built a significant career as an artist, especially in fantastical watercolours. His most remarkable work was his book, The Ship that Sailed to Mars, that took two years to complete. It reached world wide
